From June 28th to 30th, the Bioindustry 4.0 team was in Athens for the SUSChemE-SUSTENS2 conference. Over three days, a highly international crowd of more than 200 participants met at the Royal Olympic Hotel.
The program spanned green technologies, industrial biotechnology, power-to-X, AI for sustainability, process engineering, and safe-and-sustainable-by-design materials, and included a full industry themed day with industry leaders from the field.
Bioindustry 4.0 partners were well represented, with Prof. Kokossis (IPSEN, NTUA) on the organising team. We ran one interactive stakeholder workshops with project pitches, two hands-on training workshops, chaired sessions, presented posters, gave five talks and 2 keynotes. The hands-on workshops went deep on twinning with Physics-Informed Neural Networks for bioreactors and on closing the Design-Build-Test-Learn loop with a cell digital twin, while the keynotes covered digitalisation and automation in smart biomanufacturing and digital tools for nanobody bioprocesses. All of it gave us plenty of chances to meet and exchange with the community.
